LONG LOST SOUL MAN IRONING BOARD SAM COMPLETES COMEBACK WITH NEW ALBUM ‘SUPER SPIRIT,’ 2015 PERFORMANCES AT NEWPORT, JAZZFEST, 2014 SET AT LINCOLN CENTER
BIG LEGAL MESS DEBUT OUT
OCTOBER 2ND
“Legendary”
(Billboard) soul man Ironing Board Sam—long lost for a time—has completed a
comeback to the music world. This year will see Big Legal Mess Records release
his label debut ‘Super Spirit’ on October 2nd, a performance at the Newport
Folk Festival. Already, he played at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival
earlier this year and Lincoln Center Out-Of-Door last year. The artist behind a
series of in-demand 45s from that era, Sam was also a regular on 1960s soul TV
program Night Train. eMusic has called him “a true maverick.” Click here for a
25-minute documentary: https://vimeo.com/120668494
Postable track “Baby
You Got It”:

For ‘Super Spirit,’
Ironing Board Sam traveled to Producer Bruce Watson’s Dial Back Studio in Water
Valley, Mississippi to record with guitarist and co-producer Jimbo Mathus,
drummer Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees), bassist Stu Cole (Squirrel Nut
Zippers). Using Sam’s ‘60s and ‘70s singles as inspiration, Watson chose songs
from the repertoires of Ann Peebles, The Gories, Jimbo Mathus , Jack Oblivian,
Roy Hawkins and more.
A flamboyant
dresser, an eccentric inventor, a philosopher, and a musical showman, Sam also
became the spokesman for the Faultless Starch brand in a national ad campaign
this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxGPdiiXZhE
Living Blues
Magazine named him Comeback Artist of the Year in 2012 and Musician of the Year
(Keyboard) the following year. He toured Australia in 2013 and France in 21014.
The Sydney Morning Herald (Australia) said of his Australian tour, “Ironing
Board Sam, 73 years young, sang like his pants were on fire and attacked his
keyboard as if it had sinned.”
Ironing Board Sam
was interviewed last year by PBS Newshour as part of its profile of the Music
Maker Relief Foundation:

TED DROZDOWSKI MAKES UNCONVENTIONAL PSYCH-ROCK WITH UNCONVENTIONAL GUITARS ON 'LOVE & LIFE'
MUSIC CITY ROOTS SYNDICATED RADIO SHOW CONFIRMED OCT 28 AS ALL MUSIC STREAMS FULL ALBUM
Ted Drozdowski knows his guitars.
A veteran rock musician and road warrior who doubles as a journalist for Guitar World and Premiere Guitar, he fills his newest album, 'Love & Life,' with more than a dozen acoustic and electric guitars. Also included on Ted Drozdowski’s Scissormen’s ‘Love & Life’ record, which hits stores this Friday, are a handful of custom-made axes that are as unique as the music itself. The band plays NYC’s Shrine tomorrow and Brooklyn’s Grand Victory on Monday as All Music is streaming all of ‘Love & Life’: http://www.allmusic.com/blog/post/album-premiere-ted-drozdowskis-scissormen-love-life
"I like to play unconventional roots music on unconventional instruments," says Drozdowski, who has driven more than 1,000,000 miles during his tour dates with a series of bands, including his current project, Ted Drozdowski’s Scissormen. Along the way, he's carved out a reputation as "both an innovator and interpreter all at the same time" (Pop Matters).
Rooted in electric blues and psychedelic music, 'Love & Life' features guitars like 'Jo Diddley,' a 1960s Eiphone Hollowbody that Drozdowski rescued by ripping off the headstock, securing it back onto the instrument "with industrial glue at a slight-yet-intonation-proof angle," and removed the pickups. The resulting instrument, whose name is a tip-of-the-hat to blues great Bo Diddley, can be heard on "Can't Be Satisfied."
Also along for the ride is Drozdowski's "signature model" Fender Esquire, which features the autographs of friends, tour mates and influences including Dick Dale, Ike Turner and Billy Gibbons. Drozdowski customized the guitar by adding jumbo frets and a pair of late '60s Les Paul pickups. It's heavy, like his music, and he's toured with it since the '80s. "I've even let somebody breathe fire across the neck while I was playing it — in Mississippi, of course," he adds.
And then there's the so-called "Lobster Pot" guitar, which was gifted to Drozdowski by East Nashville artist Mike Windy. Again, Drozdowski modified the guitar a bit, adding a Mexican single-coil pickup — "the cheaper and gnarlier, the better" — and securing it with electric tape. The result is an instrument with "a huge, cutting sound," making it the perfect ax for Drozdowski's arsenal. It also befits Drozdowski’s time spent in the Boston music scene before moving to Nashville.
All three of those guitars will hit the road with Ted Drozdowski’s Scissormen this year. The band's upcoming tour includes a high-profile performance at the Music City Roots syndicated radio broadcast in Franklin, Tennessee October 28.

THE STONE FOXES SHINE A SPOTLIGHT ON SOCIAL ISSUES
NEW ALBUM 'TWELVE SPELLS'
FINDS INSPIRATION IN PROTEST MOVEMENTS AS SF ROCK & ROLL BAND TAKES
ACTION TO PROTECT THE MARGINALIZED
The Stone Foxes make music with a message, mixing raucous rock
& roll with lyrics inspired by the Occupy movement, income
inequality, gentrification and other social justice issues. On their
fourth album, ‘Twelve Spells’ the San
Francisco-based musicians take a hard look at the world around them,
creating the soundtrack for a city that's home to billionaires and a sprawling homeless population.
The new record, which hits stores September 4, 2015,
includes anthems like "She Said Riot," which takes a look at the way
San Francisco's soaring home prices have affected musicians and other
artists. On "Greasin Up the Door Man," singer/drummer Shannon Koehler
spins the story of four different characters: three who don't have
enough money to bribe their way past a door man, and one who's wealthy
enough to talk (or pay) his way out of most situations. It's a
personification of income inequality, delivered with an appropriate mix
of fury and melody. Finally, "Goodnight Moon" pays tribute to the
homeless, humanizing a population that many people ignore.
Putting their money with their mouths are, the Stone Foxes also
collect cans of food at every tour stop, which they then donate to local
shelters and food pantries as part of their ongoing "Goodnight Moon
Project." They encourage their audience to become involved with similar
issues, too, creating not just a fanbase, but a genuine movement of
socially-conscious people.
The Stone Foxes' objective is simple: “We’re six dudes who believe rock n' roll can move mountains, and we’re gonna play it until we move one.” Since
forming in 2005, they've have been making good on that promise,
headlining their own sold-out shows on the West Coast (including
legendary venues like the Fillmore) while also opening for national acts
like the Black Keys and ZZ Top.

JUKE-JOINT SONGWRITER KEVIN GORDON TURNS TO FOLK ART FOR INSPIRATION, AS ON NPR'S WORLD CAFE SPINS NEW TUNES
DUE SEPTEMBER 4, 2015, GORDON'S SPLIT ACOUSTIC/ELECTRIC RECORD IMMERSED IN SOUTHERN CULTURE
Songwriter Kevin Gordon fills his newest album, 'Long Gone Time,' with the sounds and stories of the American South, pulling heavily from his own upbringing in Louisiana — as well as his acclaimed collection of folk art — for inspiration.
Called a "juke-joint professor emeritus" by Rolling Stone, Gordon has spent the past twenty years making swampy, bluesy music that bridges the gap between old and new, with one foot planted in his influences and the other inching toward something new. At the same time, he's also boosted his connection to the culture through his work as a folk art collector.
For Gordon, those two passions — making music and collecting folk art — have gone hand in hand. Released September 4th, 'Long Gone Time" continues his immersion in southern culture. The album was produced by Joe V. McMahan, features guitar by Bo Ramsey, and was recorded live, with Gordon splitting the album into an even mix of acoustic tracks and full-band performances.
Gordon has served as curator of the Nashville-based Gordon Gallery for years. Three months before the release of 'Long Gone Time,' he also staged an art show at the nearby Riverwood Mansion in Nashville. The exhibit, which was previewed in an article by 'Nashville Arts,' included selections from his folk art collection, as well as live performances from Gordon himself. "[I was reading] a survey of folk art from the South from 1930 to 1980, and I was fascinated. There were short biographies of all the artists, and I just got eaten up," Gordon says in the article, adding that he began cultivating personal relationships with a few of the folk artists who made appearances in the book.
Although folk art has always been a strong muse for the Americana/rock & roll songwriter, Gordon's own has inspired other artists, too, with musicians like Levon Helm, Keith Richards, Todd Snider, and Irma Thomas all recording his songs. Last week, NPR World Cafe broadcasted “GTO” and “Crowville” from the new album on its national show. Listen to it here.

Andy Lampert is
a musician/songwriter from Rhode Island. His
influences are The Kinks, The Who, T. Rex, and Slade. These bands not
only influenced his guitar playing, but his songwriting as well. He has
played guitar and sang in Rhode Island area bands since the late
1980's. The bands went nowhere and the few recording projects he was
involved with were played once or twice on local radio but soon dropped
out of sight. Most would have given up, but Andy trudged on, hoping
that he could write and record the songs that he heard in his head
While
returning home after a trip to Eastern Europe, He was inspired to write
a lot of songs and put them together with songs all ready written. He
was also inspired to record even if it meant without a band.
And this brings us to…
10 SONGS OF PAIN
This is Andy’s first full length album and will be released to the World on August 7, 2015.
This album will take about an hour to listen to, but it will be nothing
like you have ever heard. This album is full of '60's and '70's
influenced power pop and glam, but presented in an original way. There
is something for everyone on this album.

Kevin Gordon bio
"Dude's a juke-joint professor emeritus"--Rolling Stone
In September 2015 Kevin Gordon releases Long Gone Time, the long-awaited follow-up to
2012’s critically acclaimed Gloryland. Produced by Joe V. McMahan, the new record further
explores an awkward post-Civil Rights Act American south, with narratives and meditations
based on Gordon’s own Louisiana upbringing. Recorded live, half of the tracks are recorded
with only acoustic instruments(featuring Lex Price and Bo Ramsey). The “electric” tracks,
again recorded live with minimal overdubs, feature Gordon with his stalwart band of 20 years:
McMahan, Ron Eoff, and Paul Griffith.
Over the course of twenty-five years of writing, recording and touring, Gordon has built an
impressively consistent catalog of songs, a critically-acclaimed stack of albums, and a
reputation for dynamic live performances. His 2012 release, Gloryland, received significant
critical praise and media attention: a front-page Arts section feature in The New York Times, an
appearance on NPR’s “Here and Now”, and great reviews in Rolling Stone, USA Today, and
others. Author Peter Guralnick said this about Gloryland:
"There's nothing else around today quite like Kevin Gordon’s music. I'm a huge Kevin Gordon
fan. Think of John Lee Hooker tied to the hard, imagistic poetry of William Carlos Williams, and
you get a little bit of an idea. . . you just have to listen. And listen again. For the pure emotional
pleasure of it. For the unmistakable, hard-driving passion of words and music, rocking together
in rhythm."
From The New York Times: "'Gloryland' [is] an often harrowing tour of the back-roads South
with scenes of burning churches, a serio-comic brawl after a ZZ Top concert in Shreveport, La.,
and — most memorably — the time the Klan showed up when his seventh-grade marching
band performed about 90 miles from there in Colfax."
Gordon's songs have been recorded by Keith Richards, Irma Thomas, Levon Helm, Hard
Working Americans, and others. His duet with Lucinda Williams, “Down to the Well”, was
featured on the Oxford American Southern Music Sampler.

TED DROZDOWSKI’S SCISSORMEN SLIDE UP TO BROOKLYN’S GRAND VICTORY, MANHATTAN’S SHRINE FOR PSYCH-BLUES POWERHOUSE SHOWS
Rocker/rock writer Ted Drozdowski will bring his band Ted Drozdowski’s
Scissormen to NYC for a pair of album release shows for slide
guitar-driven ‘Love & Life.’ Splitting his time between journalist
and musician, Drozdowski has done over 1,000 artist interviews and
driven over 1,000,000 miles on tour in a series of bands culminating in
Ted Drozdowski’s Scissormen, which brings together his loves of
psychedelic music and blues. Early spotlights have come from Wax
Poetics, Diffuser.FM, Premier Guitar, and beyond. The “Beggin’ Jesus”
music video brings to life the dirty groove with lo-fi animation.
Drozdowski knows how to tell a story in song as well, portraying his immigrant grandfathers suffering from mining-related illnesses in “Black Lung Fever,” sketching a portrait of armed forces veteran, former truck driver, blues music player, and MENSA member Watermelon Slim on “Watermelon Kid,” and recounting a true hang with his mentor RL Burnside that also tells of the complexities and contradictions of race relations in America. ‘Love & Life’ is his masterwork.

“NOTORIOUS LIVE ACT” (ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY) THE STONE FOXES TO RIP THE ROOF OFF THE MINT JULY 30
FRONTMAN ON NEW VIDEO: “I’VE NEVER SCARED MYSELF WRITING A SONG BEFORE”
CONCERT PREVIEWS ’12 SPELLS’ ALBUM OUT SEPTEMBER 4 WITH EARLY RAVES FROM BULLET, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, THE WILD HONEY PIE, CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND
San Francisco rock and rollers The Stone Foxes will come down the coast for a raucous show at The Mint. The show previews new album ’12 Spells’ (September 4) consisting of new tracks the band has released the first Friday of each month. ’12 Spells’ spells the arrival of a major voice in rock and roll, after the Foxes’ opening slots for Social Distortion, ZZ Top, Cage the Elephant, and the Black Keys. Here’s an SF Weekly feature on the band, delving into its inspiration of social dissent such as the Occupy movement; and into frontman Shannon Koehler’s nearly a dozen open heart surgeries.
The Stone Foxes just released a new video for “I Want To Be You,” with frontman Koehler telling Bullet Media, “I’ve never scared myself after writing a song before, until this one. I saw a magazine with a dude who was ripped and looking quite svelte, and I thought, ‘Damn, I need to eat less rocky road.’ I started thinking about how fucked up it is when either women and men feel like they have to live up to the expectations set by magazines in the grocery aisle. Then I let my imagination run. What if a woman wanted to actually be the person on the magazine so bad that she stalked her, murdered her, and stole all of her fans and fame for eternity? I wanted to push the darkness of envy to the limit."
Consequence of Sound called The Stone Foxes “a distinct joy” and Entertainment Weekly praised their “frenetic energy.” The Wild Honey Pie said, “throwback garage heaven.”
As with all tour dates, the band will collect canned food at the door and donate it to a local food bank or homeless shelter.

ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAMER MAVIS STAPLES AND SEVEN-TIME GRAMMY NOMINATED VOCALIST JOAN OSBORNE TEAM UP FOR “SOLID SOUL” FALL TOUR
-->
FIRST EVER CO-BILL OF TWO RENOWNED FEMALE
SINGERS PLANNED FOR 34-DATE TOUR TREK KICKING OFF SEPT 25
Mavis Staples and Joan Osborne
will tour together this fall on Solid Soul, a tour kicking off September 25 in
San Francisco, CA at the storied Fillmore Auditorium – a fitting locale for the tour premiere because of its
history as a venue known for creative show lineups. Two of the great living
vocalists in American music, they are expected to play their own sets and also
duet as part of the show’s
finale.
Soul/gospel icon, GRAMMY
Award-winner, and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Mavis Staples has already had a
busy 2015 as she is the subject of a full-length documentary “Mavis!,” ANTI- released her new EP Your Good Fortune, and she co-produced, with Jeff Tweedy of WILCO, Pops
Staples’ last album Don’t
Lose This (ANTI-). She has appeared on The Daily Show, The Late Show
with David Letterman, The Tonight Show, The GRAMMY Awards, Newport Folk
Festival, NPR All Things Considered, In Performance at the White House,
the Kennedy Center Honors, and CBS Sunday Morning. Her most recent two
full-length albums have been produced by Tweedy.
Seven-time GRAMMY nominee Joan
Osborne, a Kentucky native, has earned a reputation as both a commanding,
passionate performer and a frank, emotionally evocative songwriter. Since her
smash hit triple Platinum-certified album Relish, Joan has sung soul
music as part of the GRAMMY Award-winning documentary Standing In The
Shadows of Motown with Motown Records’ Funk Brothers. She also has recorded
three albums of soul music in How Sweet It Is (called “potent” by All Music Guide), Breakfast in Bed, and her 2012 album Bring It On Home, which
included interpretations of “I Don’t Need No Doctor” and “Champagne and Wine,” among others, earning
a Blues Album GRAMMY nomination.
Staples said, "Joan is such a
loving soul sister, she spreads light and joy with every note. I am so grateful
to have had her as a friend over the years, and we are going to have big fun on
the road this fall."
Osborne said, "I'm beyond
thrilled to be joining my musical hero Mavis Staples on tour this fall. To sing
with her every night will be an honor and a great privilege. I don't know what
I did in a past life to deserve this, but I cannot wait to get on that tour bus
with Mavis!"
The warm embrace of Staples’ voice
is the constant from the delta-inflected gospel sound she helped create in the
1950s, to the engaged protest of the civil rights era, and then, amazingly, on
pop radio in the Stax era with a series of soul anthems, from “I’ll
Take You There” to “Respect Yourself,” and into a new era of Americana and soul sounds in the
21st century.
Osborne's talents have put her
into a wide variety of artistic contexts, in which she’s
excelled. She joined forces with the surviving members of the Grateful Dead
when they regrouped to tour in 2003 as The Dead and produced two albums for the
great blues trio the Holmes Brothers. She's shared stages with a wide range of
performers, including Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Luciano Pavarotti, Emmylou
Harris, and Taj Mahal. Recently, Osborne has toured and recorded as a member of
Trigger Hippy, which also includes rising Americana star Jackie Greene and
Black Crowes drummer Steve Gorman.
Osborne’s
latest album, last year’s Love and Hate features
contributions from Wilco guitarist Nels Cline and backup vocals by Gail Ann
Dorsey, Catherine Russell and Amy Helm in addition to producer Jack
Petruzzelli's (Patti Smith, Rufus Wainwright) stellar guitar work.
Solid Soul is produced by Columbia
Artists Management, Inc (CAMI), a New York-based agency that specializes in the
performing arts. Photos and more info: http://www.cami.com/?webid=2451
