Paxton, Innov Gnawa, Radio Jarocho, and Elizabeth Mitchell & Suni
Paz. A St. Louisian, LaFarge has performed on PBS’ American Epic, TBS’
Conan, NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert, The Late Show with David Letterman,
HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion, and RFD’s Marty
Stuart Show. Pokey has played with the likes of Jack White, The
Raconteurs, Wanda Jackson, and Old Crow Medicine Show. He has performed
at Newport Folk Festival, Red Rocks, Radio City Music Hall, Third Man
Records, and Stagecoach. He is a Rounder Records recording artist.

Saturday, September 16, 2017 will mark the first Great Eastern Music Festival, presented by The Montauk Historical Society at The Montauk Lighthouse, located at the easternmost tip of Long Island. The Americana, roots, and bluegrass festival will be headlined by GRAMMY Award winning singer-songwriter Sarah Jarosz “best live band in Los Angeles” (LA Weekly) The Dustbowl Revival, “rising country star” (Rolling Stone) Sam Outlaw; and “timeless” (CMT) 45-year veterans and Smithsonian Folkways artists Seldom Scene.
The idyllic setting provides 360 degree views of Block Island, the Atlantic Ocean and beyond. Proceeds from the event will fund ongoing maintenance of the Lighthouse and the maintenance of the retaining wall on the ocean side.
Also featured will be “banjo wiz” (Brooklyn Vegan) Tall Tall Trees Miles to Dayton, and Long Island bluegrass favorites, Eastbound Freight, and Buddy Merriam & Back Roads. The Save the Oceans Stage will feature performances by Gravity Jazz Quartet, Gene Casey, M2D Trio, Pluck & Rail, Bill Scorzari, He-Bird, She-Bird, Kirsten Maxwell, and Hank Stone as well as an ocean water quality display and lectures from the Montauk Oceans Institute.
“It’s been a long time dream of board member, Greg Donohue and The Montauk Historical Society to present a concert on the Lighthouse grounds,” said event manager and spokesperson, Bill Ayasse. “The natural amphitheater on its North side make it a perfect location. They would like to make it an annual event.”
Tickets are $65 for general admission, $25 for children ages 6 – 12, and free for kids ages 0 – 5. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.

The Lighthouse Committee of the Montauk Historical Society is dedicated to the protection, preservation, and educational development of this national historic site. Through programs, exhibits, publications, and special events, the story of this site will be conveyed to the public.

Jalopy Theater – the music venue, instrument shop, music teaching space, and art gallery – will host a celebration September 15-18 to mark its 10th anniversary with its next door neighbor bar and grille Jalopy Tavern, featuring a weekend of music, an art opening, workshops, a party, a concert for families, and a film screening. Highlights among the artists performing include Hubby Jenkins of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Brooklyn’s premiere bluesman Blind Boy Paxton, Smithsonian Folkways band Downhill Strugglers, and country crooner Jack Grace.
Since 2006, it’s become a national folk music institution and nurtured a community that includes the next generation of NYC folk musicians. Gothamist has called it one of the “best small music venues in NYC.”
Brooklyn Magazine says, “It’s a rare and somewhat unique combination, one that fosters a back and forth between fans, amateurs, and local virtuosos. Teaching music helps break down the fourth wall–the divide between performer and audience–and recreates the sense of community that spurred the folk movement.”
Over the course of a decade, Jalopy has hosted performances by such acts as Marc Ribot, Sam Shepard, Peter Stampfel (Hold Modal Rounders), Charles Bradley, Spirit Family Reunion, Hurray For The Riff Raff, and Spider John Koerner.

As art inspires art, the musicians at the Jalopy Theatre have inspired a number of artists, leading them to create their own interpretations of what they see on the stage. This exhibit will feature the photographs of Jack Hirschorn, the paintings of Robin Hoffman, the sketches of Emily New and Ray Ray Mitrano. Jaxtaposed~Creations will feature wood burnings and jewelry inspired by various musicians. "Brooklyn Folk Festival Live," a short film shot at the 2016 Brooklyn Film Festival by Samuel Curtis and Spencer Showalter, will premier at this exhibit.
Beginning in 2008, Jack Hirschorn has photographed hundreds of shows at the Jalopy Theatre. His photographs bring the shows alive again, illustrating moments of collaboration between musicians, connection with the audience, perfecting their art.
Robin Hoffman was a fixture at the Jalopy Theatre and School of Music from 2009-2012. A former professional ballet dancer, fresh out of art school and a new parent to boot, she found an artistic anchor in the exciting music community rapidly building at Jalopy. She took ukulele lessons, attended multiple shows every week; listened and looked and drew and drew. Robin could eventually draw rapidly with very little light. She also had the privilege of witnessing and documenting the development and maturing of a wide range of bands and musicians.
She has shown at Jalopy four times previously and been interviewed by Lucid Culture and reviewed by New York Music Daily. Her approach relies upon musicality and movement analysis from her dance background and her formal illustration training at the School of Visual Arts.
Samuel Curtis and Spencer Showalter spend thousands of hours filming the music, musicians, fans and organizers of various festivals across the country. The pair will debut their short film made at the 2016 Brooklyn Folk Festival.

FAMILY CONCERT:
Astrograss will perform for families on Sunday at 11 am. Tickets are $5 for kids, $10 for adults and $25 for family of 4. ASTROGRASS gets kids and their parents dancing and singing together, with a unique blend of bluegrass, old time, and folk music. Astrograss concerts feature sing-a-longs, dance contests, and high-energy fiddle hoedowns. Their original songs cover topics like spelling, whether Pluto is a planet, bedtime and the many neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Astrograss features traditional bluegrass instrumentation, consisting of Jordan Shapiro on guitar, Sarah Alden on fiddle, Dennis Lichtman on mandolin, Jonah Bruno on banjo and Tim Kiah on bass. In response to the local Brooklyn parents' search of live musical entertainment for the whole family, Astrograss began playing its family shows in 2004. Astrograss family shows are for parents who want to be as enlivened as they want their children to be. Astrograss specializes in combining rocking bluegrass music with clever, witty educations songs that will make the parents laugh and the children dance. Educational and cultural topics are woven into this family show, leaving you with more knowledge about bluegrass music, and perhaps making you a better speller.

Astrograss will perform for families on Sunday at 11 am. Tickets are $5 for kids, $10 for adults and $25 for family of 4. ASTROGRASS gets kids and their parents dancing and singing together, with a unique blend of bluegrass, old time, and folk music. Astrograss concerts feature sing-a-longs, dance contests, and high-energy fiddle hoedowns. Their original songs cover topics like spelling, whether Pluto is a planet, bedtime and the many neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Astrograss features traditional bluegrass instrumentation, consisting of Jordan Shapiro on guitar, Sarah Alden on fiddle, Dennis Lichtman on mandolin, Jonah Bruno on banjo and Tim Kiah on bass. In response to the local Brooklyn parents' search of live musical entertainment for the whole family, Astrograss began playing its family shows in 2004. 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF GREEN RIVER FEST INSPIRES LOOK BACK AT ITS ORIGINS, MERGING LEGENDARY BANDS & HOT AIR BALLOONS IN IDYLLIC SETTING
With the 30th edition of the Green River Festival coming up July 8-10
in Greenfield, MA with Dawes, Tedeschi-Trucks Band, Shovels & Rope,
Shakey Graves, and many more, the concert’s producer and Signature
Sounds Recordings head Jim Olsen was inspired to look back at the fest’s
origins. The first festival took place in 1986 as a free one day event
at Greenfield Community College to celebrate the 5th anniversary of
local radio station WRSI (now known as The River). The free show was
headlined by NRBQ, who are returning this year. The then-unknown band
10,000 Maniacs performed (featuring a very young Natalie Merchant).
The following weekend the Franklin County Chamber Of Commerce held the first Upcountry Hot Air Balloon Festival. The following year the two events merged and eventually became the Green River Festival, which is now known nationally for its merging of bands, hot air balloons, childrens’ activities, and more.
In its now-thirty year history, the fest has earned acclaim from USA Today, Rolling Stone, and NY Times and has hosted Dr. John, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Steve Earle, The Punch Brothers, tUnE-yArDs, Buddy Guy, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The Avett Brothers, Norah Jones, and many more. Last year’s fest set a new attendance record with 14,000 tickets sold in 2015. The Green River Festival will take another leap forward in 2016 with the addition of camping at the Franklin County Fairgrounds.

Signature Sounds was
formed in 1994 by Jim Olsen and Mark Thayer to promote the burgeoning
roots music scene in the Pioneer Valley. Prior to the formation of the
label the partners worked on a number of commercial and fund raising
projects at Thayer’s home-based studio in Palmer, MA.The label was
originally housed in Olsen’s Whately home. From the beginning, the label
focused on new and developing artists. Signature has released over 150 albums to date and has played a part in launching the careers of such notable artists as Josh Ritter, Lake Street Dive, Erin McKeown, Mary Gauthier, Crooked Still, Eilen Jewell and others while also working with established singer-songwriters like Chris Smither, Patty
“The music industry has changed so much since we started the label” says Signature president
Jim Olsen.“We launched several years before there was any on-line music
retail. Our early albums were released on cassette as well as CD. These
days over half the music we sell is by download. The Internet has also
allowed the label’s artists to gain an international audience for their
music."
2014 has proven to be a watershed year for the label. In February, Signature released Lake Street Dive’s Bad Self Portraits album,
which entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #18 and has become the best
selling album in label history. The band has made appearances on
numerous network TV shows includingThe Colbert Report, Late Show With David Letterman, CONAN, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and CBS Saturday
From the beginning Signature has
been involved in presenting live music, initially programming the
popular Green River Festival and later presenting shows at clubs and
theaters around the Pioneer Valley. In 2012, the label moved into it’s
current headquarters in downtown Northampton and opened The Parlor Room. The intimate venue quickly proved popular and has hosted over 100 performances.

While Signature Sounds is planning a year of special events in celebration of it’s 20th Anniversary, the Thanksgiving Weekend shows at the Academy Of Music are the focal point of the celebration. At least 18 of the label’s artists will be performing, with many special collaborations expected.
The celebration kicks off on Friday night November 28th with a 70th birthday show for blues-folk icon Chris Smither who is also marking his 50th year as an artist. Smither will be joined by his band The Motivators, plus special guests Mark Erelli, Jeffrey Foucualt, Kris Delmhorst and Peter

recharge creatively. Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem and Eilen Jewell's Gospel side project, The Sacred Shakers round out the show.
The weekend ends with Lake Street Dive closing out the Academy shows, along with Miss Tess & The Talkbacks and And the Kids who will release their label debut on Signature Sounds early next year.

PAUL RISHELL EARNS FIRST SOLO BLUES MUSIC AWARD NOMINATIONS FOR 'TALKING GUITAR' (MOJO RODEO)
New England's blues master Paul Rishell has earned his first
solo Blues Music Award nominations for Acoustic Album of the Year with 'Talking
Guitar' and for Acoustic Artist. He and harmonica-playing musical partner Annie
Raines are previous winners as a duo.
Rishell has played with and learned from Son House, Johnny
Shines, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee, Howlin’ Wolf, John Lee Hooker, and Buddy Guy
& Junior Wells. With Raines, he has opened for Ray Charles, Asleep at the
Wheel, Susan Tedeschi, Leon Russell, Dr. John, and John Sebastian. The Boston
Globe's James Reed wrote a feature on Rishell last year.
In related news, Raines and Rishell played together publicly
for the first time 20 years ago December 5, marking a milestone in the fruitful
musical partnership.

A latecomer to the craft of songwriting, Black spent more
than a decade in the business world as a professional marketer before
discovering her writing talents. The panelists will discuss setting and
tracking goals; creating a strategy; smart marketing; and building a team on a
shoestring budget or with no budget at all.
She reflects, "I was always a singer. I grew up singing
in church and joined a few bands in college, but I didn't know that I had it in
me to write. I was sitting at my kitchen table one night and thought, 'You
know, you should do something with your voice.' Fast forward five years and I'm
a touring artist, singing my own music. I tell my audiences it's not too late
to go after your dreams!" Black sold her comfortable suburban house and
moved into an 800-square-foot rental in Somerville, MA, where she began to
dedicate her time to writing, recording, and touring.
Filmed along Boston harbor, the video for "Whiskey

character reconciles how two people so different could still love one another.

TEXAS SENSATIONS SONS OF FATHERS WILL BRING “MOVING HARMONIES” TO NYC FOR SERIES OF SHOWS TO PREVIEW DEBUT ALBUM
Indie roots combo Sons of Fathers (formerly Beck and Cauthen), who will release its highly touted self-titled debut November 1 on Blanco River Music, will perform a series of preview concerts in New York in October.
