SINGER DISCUSSES GOING BLIND AS 2ND SYNDICATED RADIO SEGMENT TAPES NEXT WEEK AT MEMPHIS SHOW
NPR aired a profile on Robert Finley nationally this week as his debut
album ‘Age Don’t Mean a Thing’ on Big Legal Mess (Fat Possum) comes out
today. Finley told NPR that being able to play soul music for a living
in spite of going blind “a dream come true… what more could a man ask.”
He also described his music as “blues that make a person hold their head
up instead of dropping it down.” He and NPR host Jeremy Hobson
discussed how money from his father for a pair of shoes went to his
first guitar; learning music from watching musicians in church; his
religious family disapproving of the blues; what it’s like to go to
school to adapt to becoming legally blind; and sensing the energy from
the audience even when he can’t see it.
‘Age Don’t Mean a Thing’ is earning praise across the board as he
prepares for a Memphis album release show October 6 at Lafayette’s to be
taped by syndicated radio show Beale Street Caravan.

The Green River Festival has earned early buzz from the New
York Times, Rolling Stone, and USA Today ahead of its July 10-12 dates in
Greenfield, MA.
NY Times said, “The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual
Festival may have pool parties and palm trees, and South by Southwest may offer
an on-site tattoo artist for V.I.P. denizens, but only Green River Festival
delivers hot-air balloons. The jazz, folk and country-heavy event, which
celebrates its 29th season this year, evolved from an annual balloon festival
on the same grounds, and it still launches several in tribute each year. This
summer’s roster veers toward folk and experimental-rock direction with sets by
Tune-Yards, Punch Brothers, and J Mascis, as well as a heavy roots and jazz
contingent in Steve Earle and the Dukes, Valerie June and Marco Benevento.”
Rolling Stone said, “Bring a blanket,” calling the fest “relaxed.”

KEVIN GORDON EARNS NY TIMES FEATURE, RAVES FOR FIRST ALBUM IN 7 YEARS

Kevin Gordon – the southern rock & roll songwriter and poet – has earned a feature in today's New York Times under the headline "A Musician Or a Poet? Yes to Both," including Gordon talking about his love of poets Richard Hugo and Denis Johnson.
Peter Applebome also spoke with Gordon fan Lucinda Williams, who told him, "He’s writing songs that are like short stories, and I really like the kind of swampy, bluesy sound."

MUSIC LEGEND DAVID AMRAM JOINS MORLEY FOR HER STELLAR NEW GENRE-HOPPING ALBUM 'UNDIVIDED,' OUT APRIL 3
The legendary David Amram – a multi-instrumentalist, composer, film scorer, and veteran of sessions with Allen Ginsberg, Thelonious Monk, and many others – joins New York singer-songwriter Morley on her new album 'Undivided.' He plays on the hidden track "I Will Stay," performing the traditional Lakota round dance melody on vocal and Lakota courting flut
Amram testifies, "Morley is one of the outstanding voices of her generation, as a singer, songwriter and bandleader she’s in a class of her own, transcends all categories and is making a major contribution to contemporary music."
Morley says, "He's a master! The session was an education. He talked about working with Dizzy Gillespie and Jack Kerouac during the breaks, it is always an honor to be in his presence, it reminds me of why I am blessed to make music."
World Music icons Hamid Drake (drums; Herbie Hancock, John Zorn) and William Parker (upright bass; DJ Spooky, Zorn) also appear on "I Will Stay."
Morley — the New Yorker singer and composer whom the New York Times said, "embodies modern-day New York femininity in all its multicultural finesse." — will release her uplifting, genre-mixing new album, Undivided, on April 3, which also marks her debut as solo producer.
