Songwriting legend Eric Andersen, whose first career retrospective, the 2CD ‘The Essential Eric Andersen,’ comes out this Friday
on Sony Legacy / Real Gone, will appear in a Q&A with Executive
Director Scott Goldman and short set at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles
on May 3 and perform a full set at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica on May 5.
Early buzz on ‘The Essential Eric Andersen’ has Brooklyn Vegan lauding
his “impressive career” in posting “great song” “Violets of Dawn” and
Pop Matters praising his “illustrious career.”
The NY Times has said, “Impressive… Very few songwriters have built a body of work as consistently strong as Mr. Andersen's.”
Bob Dylan said, “Eric Andersen is a great ballad singer and writer.”
Performers joining Andersen on the compilation include Joni Mitchell,
David Bromberg, Leon Russell, Joan Baez, Richard Thompson, Rick Danko,
and Lou Reed. Andersen and the late Phil Ochs duet on “Plains of
Nebrasky-o.” Comprehensive liner notes by the songwriter himself and

SPIN PREMIERES “CAPTIVATING” GRACE ASKEW TRACK AS ‘SCAREDY CAT’ OUT NEXT WEEK

SPIN posted a new track by fast-rising Americana artist Grace Askew, calling her music "Captivating... beautifully haunting... goosebump-inducing slide guitar improvisations. Channeling heartbreak and anger, she comes out sounding astoundingly defiant, wise beyond her years."
Meanwhile, in an interview, she told American Songwriter, about her sonic goal for ‘Scaredy Cat,’ to make it sound “janky,” which she says, “is a Delta word for rough around the edges, but in a good way. It’s raw, rough, raunchy, and Memphis.”
Early buzz has been strong. American Songwriter praised her “cool Memphis style.” No Depression called her “a singer who’s pushing country and blues boundaries with her super cool voice and great songwriting, [opening] up a gritty world of bar stools, bad luck and bad habits, unrequited love, hilltop liquor stores, and escape.”

Murry will perform July 20 at Dilettante Studios in Los
Angeles and August 4 at the Art & Soul Festival in Oakland and shortly, he

John Murry -- the Bay Area-based second cousin of William
Faulkner's who makes incredible Southern indie-noir music -- will perform at
Dilettante Studios in Los Angeles on July 20. Roger Manning, Jr (Beck), Joe
Goldring (Hope Sandoval, Sun Kil Moon), Michael Mullen, and David Baerwald
(Joni Mitchell, Robbie Robertson) will perform with Murry. Andrew Stockdale
(Wolfmother) and Carlos Forster (M. Ward) will open the show with their own
sets.
US and UK outlets are raving. Most recently, MOJO gave 'The
Graceless Age' 5 stars and called it "unique [and] formidable." The
Guardian also gave it 5 stars, writing, "I don't expect to hear a better
album this year."
NPR World Café called 'The Graceless Age' "alluring,
emotional, and infectious" while the Wall Street Journal called it
"arresting." Black Book said, "With an arresting sense of

Now based in Oakland, CA, John Murry has lived many lives.
He grew up in Elvis' hometown of Tupelo, MS and there's a photo of Elvis in
concert that shows his mother reaching out to touch his hand. He was a junkie
after he left Memphis to go to that den of iniquity, California. He wrote for
the Village Voice for a time. He is William Faulkner's second cousin and
friends have described him as lost in the worlds of southern literature. He has
seen death in an alley and managed to stumble back from it. These identities come
together in 'The Graceless Age.'

ONE OF THE "NEXT BIG THINGS" (SPIN) LA DREAM-POP BAND CORREATOWN PLAYING THE SMELL FEB 17
Correatown – the dream-pop project of Angela Correa, which has been
called one of the "next big things" by SPIN – will perform February 17
at the Smell. The all-ages show comes as the LA band prepares for a
March tour of Germany. LA Weekly said, "We… fell in love with her hooky

loved L.A. artist in about 10 minutes."

Her music is carefully assembled via drum machines, thrift store synthesizers, a reverb-soaked semi-hollowbodied guitar, and most of all, utterly gorgeous vocals, Correatown makes an airy, sound caught in late afternoon August moments. Earning comparisons to Beach House, Galaxie 500, and Spiritualized, her sweeping scope and warm sheen belie a dreamy and alluringly hypnotic soundscape.

date, spanning over 40 dates. The September 11 release of 'Before We Turn To
Dust' is gaining attention as KCRW has already spun the lead single "Miss
Her When I'm Gone," a hybrid of folk music and hip hop beats. Meanwhile,
Paste Magazine called Hayes "a very appealing songwriter—one who’s poised
to get the recognition he deserves." Hayes will be performing nightly with

Joan Wasser of Joan As Police Woman added Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer, piano, electric violin, and vocals to Morley's album 'Undivided,' out April 3. Joan testifies to Morley's talent, "Morley takes this life -- the joy and love, pain and sorrow -- and purifies it in her songs. She is the real deal, able to make me cry at the drop of a hat. "MOVING HARMONIES" (WXPN) OF BREAKOUT INDIE-ROOTS BAND SONS OF FATHERS TO MAKE LA DEBUT JAN. 11 AT HOTEL CAFE
Breakout Texas indie-roots band Sons of Fathers – whose incredible natural harmonies have stunned fans – will make their LA debut January 11 at Hotel Café. The band has seen quite a rise from their formation in San Marcos, TX earlier this year to their live radio debut on WXPN and acclaim from national publications like the Wall Street Journal and USA Today.
Legendary instrumentalist Lloyd Maines, who co-produced the self-titled debut album, told the Austin American-Statesman, "(Songwriters David Beck and Paul Cauthen) definitely have their own sound. The result is the Everly Brothers meets Neil Young and Merle Haggard and the Clash."

Legendary instrumentalist Lloyd Maines, who co-produced the self-titled debut album, told the Austin American-Statesman, "(Songwriters David Beck and Paul Cauthen) definitely have their own sound. The result is the Everly Brothers meets Neil Young and Merle Haggard and the Clash."
