Groove-based music two-piece Dharmasoul has signed to booking agency Concerted Efforts, home to Irma Thomas, Josh Ritter, Belly, Booker T., John Doe, Juliana Hatfield, Naomi Shelton, Jolie Holland, and Rhiannon Giddens. Dharmasoul – whose foot-tapping debut album ‘Lightning Kid’ has earned praise as well as 150,000 Spotify plays in only a few weeks – mixes R&B, folk, gospel, funk, soul, blues, and jazz music.

“FASCINATING” (CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND) NEW BOOK I GOT A SONG: A HISTORY OF THE NEWPORT FOLK FESTIVAL OUT THIS MONTH ON WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRESS AS FEST FAST APPROACHES

Brooklyn-based Mother West has grown from a small indie label and recording studio to a full-service boutique music catalog, offering music licensing for film and television, publicity and promotions, customized distribution, online sales, music production and artist management. With an impressive roster under it's belt, Mother West continues to work with an array of artists in various capacities, including Motopony, Mother Feather, The Magnetic Fields, Aloud, The Bones of J.R Jones, Peppina, Kris Gruen, Cold Blood Club and many others.

Originally founded by musicians Charles Newman and Paul Casanova, Mother West was named after the sign on the deli downstairs from their studio and was created to release their debut record Noreally Thanks from their band PLEASE in 1994. This led to a cut on the platinum selling Empire Records Soundtrack on A&M Records and the company's first foray into placing music into films.  Since then, and under the helm of Newman, the company continues to grow it's catalog and develop it's community of artists.

THE NICK MOSS BAND GETS A BOOST FROM LEAD BELLY'S OPERA-TRAINED COUSIN

NEW ALBUM 'TIME AIN'T FREE' OUT MARCH 18 ON BLUE BELLA RECORDS, MARKED BY SYNDICATED RADIO SEGMENT

BILLBOARD: "MOSS REACHES DEEPER INTO SOUL, FUNK, AND ROCK 'N' ROLL"

'Time Ain't Free,' the new album from the Nick Moss Band, marks a culmination of the band's new sound, a hard-driving album of soul music, blues, funk, gospel, southern rock, rhythm & blues and boogie sounds. Explosive second lead vocalist and guitarist Michael Ledbetter – who has added to the new sound Moss has carved out for his band– is first cousin twice removed to Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Lead Belly.

Raised in Chicago, IL on the sounds of Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, and B.B. King, he enjoyed a strong, eight-year career in the Chicago opera community before joining the Nick Moss Band in 2011. Moss offered a touring spot in the band after Ledbetter's impressive performance on the popular single "It'll Turn Around" (from 2011's Here I Am), as well as background vocal overdubs on many songs on that release, which reached #2 on the Relix/Jamband Radio Chart in 2012. The band—with Leadbetter in it--would go on to perform "It'll Turn Around" to a standing ovation at The 34th Annual Blues Music Awards in Memphis, TN.

He says, "They seem like very independent kinds of music, but my favorite artists and singers – whether they are blues, soul, or opera – were the most passionate singers: the ones where the passion just flowed from their voices."

Does Lead Belly inspire his current singing? He exclaims, "It's hard not to be inspired by all of his work! I just try to do the Ledbetter name justice in what I do."

'Time Ain't Free' marks the first album of his tenure as bandleader in which Moss shares the lead vocals, as well as some of the songwriting. Ledbetter says, "Nick Moss is an excellent teacher. It's a blessing to have that kind of motivation on stage and in the studio. I wrote four songs on the album. This was my first time singing lead and playing on an album so the whole thing was a crash course for me but the band was a well-oiled machine!"

He reflects, "My favorite song on the album is 'I Want The World To Know.' It's the most personal song I've ever written and, because of that, I was able to put just a little bit more of my heart and soul into my vocals. I'm very proud of that tune." Billboard agreed, posting the song as a track premiere, saying, "Moss reaches deeper into soul, funk and rock 'n' roll on Time Ain’t Free."

The Nick Moss Band — "an artist with important things to tell us," according to Blue Revue Magazine, on which he has appeared on the cover – has announced a 36-date fall tour in anticipation of a new album due in the spring of 2014. Moss is a 16-time Blues Music Award nominee and a 3-time Blue Blast Award Winner. Moss continually tops the Living Blues Radio charts, and even debuted at #2 on the Relix/Jamband Radio Charts in 2012 with Here I Am.

Having spent time in the bands of blues legends Jimmy Dawkins, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith (The Legendary Blues Band), and Jimmy Rogers, Moss has been schooled in the deep Chicago blues tradition. He has also produced the Midnight Blues album by the late Magic Slim. Once a blues purist, Moss has more recently widened his scope, stretching himself and challenging his devoted audience with ingredients from soul music, rhythm and blues, funk, and a little bit of rock and roll. All Music Guide has praised Moss' music as "memorable… played with spirit, drive, and swing."

The Nick Moss Band features second guitarist and vocalist Michael Ledbetter, a descendant of Huddie Ledbetter, better known as Lead Belly. An electrifying new talent, Ledbetter will be making his recorded lead vocal debut on the forthcoming Moss album.

Sean Hayes – whose new album 'Before We Turn To Dust' has topped the singer songwriter charts on iTunes over the past two weeks since its release – will perform at Le Poisson Rouge in New York, NY October 30, 2012. He will also tape a session for WFUV while he's in NYC.

Known for a stunning vibrato in his voice, and his soulful lyrics, Hayes puts on a show that has fans tapping their feet and shaking their hips.

Meanwhile, he recently completed an interview with Associated Press Broadcasting and Relix Magazine has debuted the second mp3 from 'Before We Turn To Dust,' "Bam Bam."

The NYC show comes as part of an extensive fall tour of the U.S.

On the weekend when they were the talk of Newport Folk Festival following a standing ovation on Saturday, the homegrown American music of Spirit Family Reunion also earned acclaim nationally in a NPR Weekend Edition profile. Host David Greene called Spirit Family Reunion "songs that raise your spirit as high as the mercury" and said, "Wow, that's quite a sound."

Newport was abuzz, both on site and on Twitter. NPR All Songs Considered Tweeted on Saturday, "So far Spirit Family Reunion have been kicking up the most dust at Newport."

On the strength of Newport and NPR, the band's debut album 'No Separation' rose into the iTunes Store's top 100 albums and was Bandcamp's #1 album.

The band will also play Celebrate Brooklyn this Saturday, opening the night at the Prospect Park Bandshell at 6:30pm.

The band was also featured in a Refinery 29 fashion spread on Newport fans and artists.

In posting their set from the Newport Folk Festival, NPR Music said, "Brooklyn's Spirit Family Reunion crafts a sweetly ramshackle Americana sound that's part secular gospel revival, part folk ramble. With its vintage instruments and rowdily free-wheeling vibe, the group plays Newport as if the amps are off and the audience is huddled around, clapping along."

Mat Davidson explained to NPR, "A lot of what we try to do is provide the spirit of gospel music without being of a particular faith or excluding any faith. Open-door gospel." Listen to the segment, featuring live performances, here.

Following heavy touring and intensive songwriting sessions, "breakout" (Austin Chronicle) "alt-rockers" (Baeble Music) Sons of Fathers fulfills the promise of last year's self-titled debut with a profound, terse masterpiece of a second album 'Big Diamond Waltz' (August 15 / Blanco River Music). Vance Powell, who mixed Jack White's 'Blunderbuss' and albums by Dead Weather and The Raconteurs, approached the band at an in-store at Grimey's in Nashville, TN and offered to mix 'Big Diamond Waltz.' Baeble Music raved about the "barb wire hooks" of the new material, which was self-produced by band principles David Beck and Paul Cauthen, continuing, "Sons of Fathers make their case for why they should be included in your current crush on southern rock leaning bands."

Powell said, "The Sons are blazing a trail out of Austin with great songs and a cool sound unique unto themselves. I loved working on the album."

Sons of Fathers were named one of "12 to watch in 2012" by eMusic, which called the self-titled debut album "terrific" and "barn-burning," continuing, "nothing can take away the songwriting duo's brotherly harmonies [and] their band's ruckus-raising live shows." Relix Magazine called the self-titled debut album "hot tracks," continuing, "Sons of Fathers puts on an impressive live show but the album is even better." Dates are planned opening for Alison Krauss and Dwight Yoakam.

While 'Sons of Fathers' earned comparisons to The Avett Brothers (by CMT.com and AOL Music), Dawes (Baeble Music), and Ray LaMontagne, the new album adds new elements to their sound on 'Big Diamond Waltz' and in their ferocious live shows: circus-inspired waltzes and reprises with swirling horns and slide guitar, dark blues, and spine-tingling folk, all with Sons of Fathers' harmonies which are "nothing short of moving" (WXPN). Much like the Byrds redefined the boundaries of Country and The Band did so with rock, Sons of Fathers merge the two seamlessly and bridge the generations with a new original sound like no other.

Highlights include "Big Diamond Waltz," a searching song with an unmatched intensity; the unrequited lovelorn "To Whom Do You Belong?," the ballad "Lay Me Down"; the scorching "Burning Days"; and the dark character study of "You're Gonna Hurt Someone."

The vocal and songwriting chemistry between Cauthen, grandson of a Texas preacher who taught him to sing and play, and Beck, son of a prominent Texas upright bassist, has deepened. They are rooted in Texas music but steeped in the indie-folk scene.

The band has also completed a Daytrotter session.
